The Band
Maywater is a Toronto based progressive bluegrass band. Born out of the city's Bluegrass Jam community, Maywater has been playing around town since 2024. We play a mix of original songs, bluegrass standards, and thoughtfully arranged modern tunes.
A 5th generation musician from the Allegheny mountains of central Pennsylvania, Nate grew up playing folk, country, and gospel with his family — in campgrounds, fields, and small Baptist congregations. He came to Toronto in 2019 and has been pickin' around town ever since.
Dave is a multi-instrumentalist with decades of experience. His fiddle playing can pierce beautifully through a song, and his harmoninies elevate vocal tunes, making them richer and sweeter.
Brining the intellect and swing from the jazz world, Nick drives songs forwards giving the rest of the band the deep sounds to play on top of. Make sure to catch one of his solos on a jazzier tune, they're a delight.
Mike brings enthusiasm and earnestness to his playing and singing. A live-music-lover turned performer, Mike loves cultivating fun musical experiences (for players and audiences members alike!).
Simon brings mind-bending banjo rolls and delightful dobro slides into our music. With a sharp technical style, you'll wonder how he does it all. Lucky for us, he's got enough puns to entertain while he tunes.
Shows
We play at a variety of venues around Toronto — The Local, The Drom, The Emmet Ray, and others — as well as community and neighbourhood events. Reach out for booking.
